31 Days of Handmade Christmas: Kid-Friendly Christmas Pizza

Pizza is always a favorite around our house, as it should be.

But you know what’s even better than pizza?

Christmas Pizza.

I know that probably wasn’t going to be your answer.  The obvious answer would be two pizzas, some breadsticks, and a big cold Dr. Pepper (any other drink is UNACCEPTABLE, y’all).

But no, it’s not those things.  It’s Christmas Pizza.  Look, I know what you’re thinking.  Christmas Pizza?  Really?  Like pine tree pizza or sugar cookie pizza?  No.  Though sugar cookie pizza is totally acceptable and awesome in its own right but that’s another post.  It’s just pizza, but made in awesome Christmas shapes.  You might not be impressed with this, but trust me – your kids are gonna love it.

This meal can be as complex or as simple as you would like, which makes it perfect for a kid-friendly meal!

Most of the time I’ll take the time to make homemade pizza crust, but for this dinner I decided to use canned pizza dough. If you’re going to be making this with your kids, this shortcut can take some of the stress out of it, and they’ll never know the difference!

My mother-in-law bought me a ton of cookie cutters a couple of years ago and I LOVE them.  I like to use them to cut my kids sandwiches into different shapes for their lunch boxes and of course to top my fresh fruit pies (like this apple pie right here!) One of the cutters is a huge Christmas tree, which is the perfect size for personal pizza!

I got 3 kid sized pizzas from one roll of pizza dough, which was perfect for our family.  I always brush the crust with olive oil, sprinkle with Italian seasoning and garlic, and bake it at 400 degrees until the bottom is starting to get crispy.

Then comes the fun part!

Pour your spaghetti sauce and shredded cheese into two separate bowls.  Chop up some bell peppers, fry up some hamburger, lay out pepperoni, whatever your kids would like to have on their pizzas.  My kids stuck with the classic cheese pizza.  Always a favorite.

Let them go crazy! If they make a little bit of a mess it’s okay! Once they’ve topped their pizzas, bake for about 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is nice and melty.

Let them cool a little while, then place on your favorite Christmas plates and put on your favorite Christmas movie (ours is Elf), and enjoy the company of your sweet kiddos.

We hope you love this as much as we do! It has definitely become one of our favorite family traditions, along with these that we already wrote about!

  2. Love it! I bet your kids do too – this is one of those memories they’ll have when they are adults. Mine remember ONE snow day long ago when they sled down the hill on the side of the house and I passed them hot chocolate through the kitchen window since the snow was so high! #bloggingboost
